WELCOME

I’m Nick Cheesman, a solicitor with over a decade of experience in employment law and workplace relations. I founded NEC Legal Consulting to offer something different — straightforward, human legal advice that genuinely supports people through challenging moments.

I believe that legal advice should empower, not intimidate. After more than a decade working as a solicitor in employment law and workplace relations, I founded NEC Legal Consulting to do things differently.

Too often, I saw clients — both individuals and businesses — feel overwhelmed by complex processes, jargon and impersonal advice. I wanted to create a service where people could get clear, practical guidance from someone who genuinely understands what’s at stake.

My goal is simple: to provide honest, supportive and commercially sound legal advice that helps people move forward with confidence. Whether you’re dealing with a difficult situation at work, leading a business through change, or just need to understand your options, I’ll take the time to listen, explain and find the best route for you.

I built NEC Legal on the values that matter most to me — clarity, fairness and respect. Every client deserves to feel informed, supported and in control, no matter how complex their situation.

About NEC Legal

I have spent my career advising employers and employees across the public, private and regulated sectors. His experience includes leading complex restructures, TUPE transfers, disciplinary investigations and Employment Tribunal litigation, as well as drafting modern, fair and compliant contracts and workplace policies.

I have acted as trusted counsel to senior leadership teams, helping organisations navigate sensitive people issues with confidence and integrity. His work spans advising on whistleblowing and discrimination cases, executive exits, collective consultations, and large-scale workforce change projects. I am also experienced in data protection and governance, advising on GDPR compliance, employee monitoring, and subject access requests.

Alongside my work, I also sit as a Magistrate on the West Yorkshire bench, this gives me a unique perspective on fairness, impartiality and decision-making under pressure.

I am passionate about promoting transparency, empathy and accountability in every aspect of my practice.
